From Hypercar to Hyperbike, McLaren Ventures into Mountain Biking

McLaren just unveiled its first line of electric bikes, and as expected, they are proclaimed to be the most powerful in the world.

Renowned for its countless successes on the world’s most famous circuits, McLaren Automotive, after venturing into the market of exceptional road cars, inaugurates the era of hyper electric bikes with its first range of bikes revealed today.

The limited edition range of four bikes focuses entirely on design and extreme technologies. Designed by the same teams responsible for creations such as the hybrid supercar Artura, the very first McLaren electric bikes incorporate characteristic McLaren features such as a carbon fiber chassis and next-generation electrification. At the core, an optimized power-to-weight ratio guarantees top-tier performance. A nod to the automotive world, the two wheels feature a digital display mimicking automotive screens. Telemetry information including speed and range is shown on a color LCD screen integrated into the handlebars.

The flagship McLaren versions, the 600 models, compete for the title of the most powerful electric mountain bike in the world, with a Race mode delivering up to 852 W of power and a top speed of 32 km/h. Two models are available in a limited series, one semi-rigid 29-inch version and a fully suspended version with 29-inch wheels at the front and 27.5 inches at the rear, with a rear travel of 145 mm and a front fork travel of 160 mm.

In total, four models make up the range: the Extreme 600W and Extreme 250W, equipped with a 12-speed SRAM wireless XX Eagle transmission, and the Sport 600W and Sport 250W, fitted with a mechanical 12-speed SRAM GX Eagle transmission.
