Like many automobile manufacturers, Audi is diversifying and is now entering the electric mountain bike segment with a promising model.

Alpine, Porsche, Lamborghini… Many prestigious car manufacturers are also seeking to “green” their image by offering scooters and other bikes (read our high-end bike feature). Often developed by specialists in these segments, they benefit from the network and clientele of automobile brands to justify their often very high prices.

The latest example is the Audi electric mountain bike powered by Fantic, mechanically developed by an Italian two-wheeler specialist. This new model stands out with its frame that favors aluminum, but also includes carbon fiber inserts. Among the high-end details that will appeal to experts, it can be noted that Audi trusted Vittoria for off-road tires, choosing 27.5-inch rubber at the rear and 29 inches at the front. The ultra-light wheels are supplied by Mavic E-DEEMAX, while the derailleur and chain are from Sram GX Eagle.

To tackle the most rugged terrains, the Audi mountain bike features a suspension travel of 180 mm and reinforced shocks.

Torque for climbing

On the mechanical side, the manufacturer has opted for a Brose S-MAG 36 Volt 250 Watt electric motor, capable of providing up to 90 Nm of torque. The battery offers a capacity of 36 volts and 720 Wh, but the range is unknown. However, for this type of model, it is primarily the additional assistance on climbs that will be sought after.

At Audi, we have been bold in our commitment to becoming a leader in providing sustainable premium mobility,” explains Andrew Doyle, Audi UK director. “The Audi electric mountain bike in collaboration with Fantic is another fantastic example of how we can expand our mobility offerings to customers beyond the car models they drive.”

A true little jewel that is expected to be traded around €9,500 according to early estimates.
