The new Volkswagen Golf showcased at Rétromobile

Volkswagen will celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Golf and will display on its booth the 8 generations from Golf I of 1980 to Golf VIII of 2024.

On the occasion of the Retromobile Show, Volkswagen will highlight half a century of success and innovation with the Golf. An iconic model of the brand, it has captured the hearts of drivers worldwide with more than 37 million units sold since March 1974. To properly celebrate the 50th anniversary of this bestseller, Volkswagen will line up all eight generations, including, for the first time in France, the brand new Golf VIII.

Successor to the Beetle. The first production Golf was manufactured at the Volkswagen plant in Wolfsburg at the end of March 1974. The official market launch took place in May. Previously, the Beetle, with its rear engine and rear-wheel drive, had marked the Volkswagen brand for decades. With the first Golf, a new era finally begins: that of front-engine and front-wheel drive.

Visitors will find the following vehicles on the Volkswagen stand:

Golf I of 1980. Model equipped with a 1.1L engine of 37 kW (50 hp), Diamond Silver metallic paint.

Golf II of 1990. Model equipped with a 1.8L engine of 66 kW (90 hp), Diamond Silver metallic paint.

Golf III of 1994. Model equipped with a 1.9L engine of 66 kW (90 hp), Satin Silver paint.

Golf IV of 2002. Model equipped with a 2.8L engine of 150 kW (204 hp), Metallic Silver Reflection paint.

Golf V of 2007. Model equipped with a 1.4L engine of 103 kW (140 hp), Metallic Silver Reflection paint.

Golf VI of 2011. Model equipped with a 1.6L engine of 77 kW (105 hp), Metallic Silver Reflection paint.

Golf VII of 2012. Model equipped with a 1.4L engine of 103 kW (140 hp), Metallic Silver Reflection paint.

New Golf VIII – 2024. GTE version, Oryx White paint.
