Roles: New Anti-Theft System for the French Brand

The Roole automotive club announces today a new system for identifying stolen cars called “Balise Rx”. 

Car theft is a source of anxiety for many drivers and car owners. A previous study by Coyote in partnership with the Ministry of the Interior noted 133,800 vehicles stolen in 2022, of which 70% were private vehicles.

Roole thus offers a hidden tag within its vehicle to enable law enforcement and other platform users to locate the vehicle. Priced at €49, it will be accessible to the widest audience. The goal is to equip more than one million vehicles by the end of 2024.

The automotive club estimates that only 39% of stolen cars are recovered in France. Therefore, it is important to equip your vehicle with as many technologies as possible to prevent such thefts, and that is where Roole comes in.

How does Roole’s Rx Tag work?

To detect a stolen vehicle, Roole deploys two different systems. The first is an application reserved for law enforcement called “Roole Protect”. It detects any tag within a 50-meter radius. This is valid whether the vehicle is moving or stationary. 

The Ministry of the Interior approves this application. It is available on the secure store of law enforcement agencies. As a result, they will now have more technological means to locate stolen cars.

The second vehicle detection system relies on community mesh networking. With more than 1.2 million members across the country, Roole depends on them to transmit the location of the tag.

In the event of a vehicle theft equipped with the Balise Rx, anyone with the Roole Premium app passing within 50 meters of the tag will securely and anonymously transmit the tag’s location. Authorities will immediately receive this information. Thomas Fournier, Deputy General Manager of Roole, emphasizes that the collected location data is completely anonymized.
