Toyota bZ Time Attack Concept: Going Off the Rails?
Presented at the SEMA Show 2025, the bZ Time Attack Concept symbolizes a new era for Toyota: that of bold electric performance.
Behind this spectacular prototype lies a much broader strategic reflection: that of a historic manufacturer wanting to prove that fun and competition also have a place in the electric vehicle era.
Until now, Toyota’s electric concept cars played the card of sobriety and efficiency. With the bZ Time Attack Concept, the Japanese brand changes tone. For the first time, it transforms a 100% electric production model into a circuit and hill climb racing machine.

Beneath radical lines and an impressive aerodynamic kit, this study pushes the limits of the bZ platform: over 400 electric horsepower, a body lowered by 15 centimeters, a track widened by 15 cm, and fully functional aerodynamics. All done as an experiment rather than just an aesthetic demonstration.

“This project was never intended to be a marketing showcase,” says Marty Schwerter, director of the Toyota Motorsports Technical Center. “It was about understanding how our electric architectures can be exploited in an extreme context, and what that implies for the future development of our vehicles.”
This bZ Time Attack is therefore not just a “show car”: it is a full-scale testing platform. Toyota uses it to study thermal management, mass distribution, aerodynamic integration, and software calibration of electric motors pushed beyond their original configuration.

Toyota wants to engage in electric performance
By venturing into the time attack arena, Toyota seeks to break an image that clings to it: that of a conservative manufacturer, cautious in its electric transition. Yet, with this bZ Time Attack Concept, the message is clear: electric can also mean adrenaline and pure performance.
Beyond the spectacle, Toyota claims here a philosophy of exploration. The theme of its stand at the SEMA Show – “Powered by Possibility” – sums up this approach: every technology, whether thermal, hybrid, or electric, can be reimagined through the lens of performance.
The question remains whether we will ever see this Toyota bZ Time Attack Concept in a championship or competition. And the answer is no…
