The technical specifications of the Tesla Model 3 Long Range are quite strange

The revelation of the technical specifications of the Tesla Model 3 Long Range RWD seems to confirm that the battery is new.

The news about Tesla these days revolves around the range of its vehicles. Model 3, Model Y, new or already on the road, there is something for everyone. It is especially noticeable that it is becoming increasingly easy to write about the next episodes…

After having marketed a Long Range RWD Model Y that is lighter and more generous in kilometers, it is now the turn of the Model 3 to show the same symptoms. Unfortunately, Tesla remains silent on the technical specifications of the components that make up its cars. At best, the homologation characteristics appear on its official site.

Thus, for several weeks, we had seen this suspicious line of a “Long Range RWD Model 3” with power figures similar to those of the current Model 3 RWD renewed in 2023.

Its weight is oddly 26 kilograms less while, at the same time, the range will be about 120 km greater in Europe. This already rules out the hypothesis of an identical battery but with an electronic cap on the greater capacity as thought in this previous article. It is therefore a revolutionary battery with a lower weight but higher energy density.

When looking at the average consumption, Tesla displays 14.4 kWh per 100 km with this new Long Range RWD variant, compared to 13.2 kWh for the standard RWD, which again suggests a more generous battery.

Increased power?

Finally, the performance is better with a 0 to 100 km/h time of 1 second less than the RWD version, at 5.1 seconds compared to 6.1 seconds for the RWD. This raises another question: could this Long Range RWD be more powerful than it claims to be?

Why? Because the Long Range RWD Model Y now boasts 255 kW (346 hp), compared to 220 kW (299 hp) for the standard RWD version. This explains the higher energy consumption!

Strangely, the consumption of the Long Range RWD Model Y is lower than that of the RWD, which suggests better energy management offered by this new battery with still unknown chemistry. But then, why doesn’t this appear with the Model 3?

There are still many mysteries to clarify, but one has definitely been revealed: the Long Range RWD Model 3 is indeed coming to Europe as its entire homologation process is completed.
