The Ford F150 Lightning Benefits from the Advertising Powered by the Cybertruck

Ford’s electric pickup sales exploded in Q4 2023 thanks to the disappointment caused by the Tesla Cybertruck.

Thanks to whom? One might wonder if customers were delaying their purchases based on Tesla‘s announcements. Since the Cybertruck’s reveal, Ford has experienced a surge. It must be said that the Cybertruck has disappointed, except among hardcore fans somewhat blinded by reality. Heavy, expensive, with limited range and unknown delivery times, Tesla’s pickup struggles to justify its two-year delay.

As a result, a segment of pickup consumers eager to switch to electric have turned to Rivian and Ford. Mocked cheerfully by Tesla in numerous communications and videos, Ford even ridiculed the exposure offered by its Californian rival. And this is reflected in the sales figures for Q4 2023. Thus, the Ford F150 Lightning electric pickup saw its sales jump 75% over the last three months of the year. That’s 11,905 units sold, bringing the total for 2023 to 24,165 units. Things are improving for Ford in the electric vehicle sector overall. Okay, volumes remain very low compared to Tesla, but the trend is positive. With 72,608 electric vehicles sold in 2023, there was an 18% increase compared to 2022. While far from Tesla’s 1.8 million, Ford is now the second-largest electric manufacturer in the USA.

For example, the Mustang Mach-E sold 40,771 units and remains the best-seller in the company’s lineup with the blue oval logo.

Finally, the Ford F150 Lightning has adjusted its prices and features for 2024 to become even more competitive. The entry-level now starts at $54,995 (€50,310) excluding taxes, while the Tesla Cybertruck begins at $60,990 (€55,800) excluding taxes… but with delivery scheduled for late 2025.
