Tesla’s Chief Designer Reveals Secrets of the Cybertruck

Two-seater autonomous vehicle without steering wheel, pedals, or rear window, Tesla’s Cybercab is a truly unique machine.
As we recently revealed to you, the Cybercab should have about half the parts of a Model 3 and therefore cost nearly half the price of Tesla’s flagship sedan, but aside from that, it’s impossible to obtain any technical information about the new star. To familiarize the general public with its autonomous Robotaxi, Tesla is increasing display events like this week at the Petersen Automotive Museum in Los Angeles, California, where it will remain until early January 2025.

This autonomous Cybercab is one of 20 fully operational pre-production Robotaxis unveiled at the “We, Robot” event held in October 2024 at Warner Bros Studios in Burbank, California. In a video released yesterday by the Museum, Franz von Holzhausen, Tesla’s chief designer, explains the stylistic choices and reasoning behind this revolutionary project. The vehicle can accommodate two passengers, features automatic opening gull-wing doors, and has a large tailgate for loading. It uses the same technology and sensors as Tesla’s current vehicles, but requires no pedals or steering wheel to operate. This makes perfect sense for an autonomous car.
Franz von Holzhausen also explained that he chose the gold color because it reflects a kind of futuristic version of the classic New York Yellow Cab. We won’t lie to you, we hadn’t thought of that… The designer also confirms that it will be possible to buy or rent the car for the desired duration. The question remains whether the plan to introduce the vehicle in 2026 will be met, and on that front, silence prevails…
