The BYD Seal 2025 Already Undergoes a Major Update

Staying true to its habits, BYD continuously improves its models and does not wait years to do so. The Seal 2025 is making progress.

Waiting 3 or 4 years to modernize a car all at once has become soooo 80’s in the eyes of Chinese manufacturers. There, a performing model is constantly updated, both aesthetically and technologically.

But in China, barely unveiled, this BYD Seal will make its appearance in dealerships as early as August 8th! Once again, the Chinese production line is unmatched in speed with ultra-short approval processes. This is where Americans and Europeans cannot compete.

The perceived quality is also adjusted based on popularity. Such possibilities are now offered by generic platforms for electric cars. Their evolution is much simpler than their thermal predecessors: new battery, new electric motors, electronic management of the power unit, algorithms, etc., everything has become like a big Lego set. You remove a brick and add a new one, as long as it fits.

BYD Seal, the Chinese Tesla Model 3

BYD revealed, on August 2, 2024, the 2025 vintage of its midsize sedan, the Seal. A perfect rival to the Tesla Model 3, it wins many comparisons, particularly due to its better practicality, finish, and range (up to 570 km in series). Its price remains still high in France, at 46,990 euros, which is 4,500 euros more than a Tesla Model 3. BYD has not yet pressed the accelerator and is sharpening its weapons…

Aesthetically, the new Seal differs little from the current model: new wheels, BYD logo on the trunk instead of the long and pompous “Build Your Dream.” The interior of the front and rear lights also differ. But we particularly note the addition, as an option, of a Lidar radar on the roof, capable of providing L2+ autonomous driving thanks to all the associated electronic aids. A first for BYD.

A Modernized Interior

No new technical data has been shared at this time, but there should definitely be improvements to compete with the Model 3, which sees its sales three times lower in China compared to the Seal. The reason: its price of 179,800 yuan, or 22,998 euros!

Finally, as explained earlier, the quality of presentation is improving. BYD has completely reinvented the dashboard. More vertical, equipped with an LCD screen, new concealed air vents, and less fragile materials (the piano black was messy), it truly modernizes the whole. Notably, also the new 4-spoke steering wheel, which is slightly more sporty.

It is worth noting, finally, the retention of physical buttons for quick access to certain functions. A customer demand, while Tesla, for instance, opts for 100% digital screens, which can be limiting at times.

BYD has not communicated about the arrival date of this model in Europe either.
