Tesla Model Y 2025: Makeover Workshop?

Now considered outdated in design, the Tesla Model Y will undergo a welcome makeover at the end of the year to boost its sales.

To support the sales of the current generation of the Tesla Model Y, Elon Musk promises that nothing will be announced in 2024. However, everything suggests the contrary, starting with the collapse of global sales that sounds the alarm. The American manufacturer must quickly revitalize its operations, as the news is leaning more towards negative than positive. Sales, electronic bugs, fatal accidents, lawsuits, power struggles, and a super bonus of $56 billion, along with pro-Trump campaigning, are all issues that distract customers and tarnish the once-cool image.

Tesla has become just another car manufacturer. The competition has largely caught up, and in some cases even surpassed, companies like BYD, and business challenges are becoming apparent. The best-selling Model Y, the foundation on which the entire card house is built, is tipping dangerously.

To stabilize it, a mid-cycle update, similar to the Model 3 from last year, is in the works. Development prototypes are circulating everywhere. At the end of July 2024, one of them leaked the design of its rear trunk and lights, providing sufficient elements to inspire designer Sugar Chow, who modeled the Tesla Model Y of tomorrow.

A New Light Signature

A light bar appears, spanning the trunk lid, as well as the Tesla inscription in place of the logo. Nothing groundbreaking. The design also incorporates the headlights from the new Model 3, along with 19-inch alloy wheels, which will remain an option. Plastic covers, which are more aerodynamic and less expensive, continue to be Tesla’s preference, even on its Model S costing over 90,000 euros…

Ultimately, nothing revolutionary. It’s difficult to reinvent car design, and the other surprise will now come from the front end. It will also be sleeker to bring modernity and aerodynamic efficiency, potentially adding a few extra kilometers of range.

The factories in Shanghai and Berlin are already being updated to accommodate the production of this new Tesla Model Y “phase 2”. The presentation, like Apple Keynotes, is expected to take place at the start of the school year, with sales set to begin before the end of the year.
