Tesla Model 3 Long Range: 685 km of range?

Launched and marketed soon after in the United States, the Tesla Model 3 Long Range shatters records.

This is the big star of mid-July 2024: the Tesla Model 3 Long Range. Two months earlier, based on the same principle, a Tesla Model Y Long Range with a larger battery, and therefore even better range, expanded the American manufacturer’s catalog.

However, three unknowns remain:

1. The desire of Tesla to bring this version across the Atlantic for import into Europe
2. The price in case of import
3. And the theoretical and real range

Up to 685 km of range?

In the United States, where the calculation of range prioritizes highways more, the mileage figures are mechanically lower than in Europe. This is due to the lesser regeneration to increase range. Thus, a Model Y Long Range shows 600 km in Europe compared to 515 km in the USA.

The same applies for the Tesla Model 3 Long Range, which shows 513 km in Europe compared to 438 km in the United States. Therefore, what mixed mileage can we expect with the WLTP cycle with the new Model 3 Long Range?

Across the Atlantic, it shows a range of 585 km. By applying the same logic with the European homologation cycle, we could thus reach 685 km! A figure consistent compared to the Model Y Long Range whose weight and aerodynamic profile are much less flattering.

Long live Made in USA!

Finally, there is the question of price. And on this point, there may be a pleasant surprise. In the United States, the Tesla Model 3 Long Range is no longer eligible for the federal eco bonus of $7,500. In contrast, this new Long Range version, which sources its battery from North America, is eligible.

In Europe, if this version were imported via the United States and not China, like current production, it would circumvent the new customs duties rules. These, which are stricter with Chinese vehicles, have driven the price of the Tesla Model 3 in Europe up by around 1500 euros. Can we think that a Model 3 Long Range would be barely more expensive than a simple “Made in China” Long Range? Very likely!
