Survival Operation for the New Nissan LEAF
This page is translated from the original post "Opération survie pour la nouvelle Nissan LEAF" in French.

Unloved, ignored, the Nissan LEAF remains a milestone in the history of electric automotive transition.
If there is one car that deserved a brighter career, it is definitely the Nissan LEAF, a model that marked an important chapter in the history of electric vehicles. First introduced in 2010, the LEAF was the very first mass-produced 100% electric model. With over 600,000 units sold worldwide, it cannot be called a niche product, but nor can it be considered a commercial success.
Yet, this car could have had a fate similar to that of the Tesla Model 3. Unfortunately, Nissan did not believe enough in it, using it only as an opportunistic showcase amid the overall euphoria of the electric mobility shift. The design fairies also did not lend a hand at its cradle, to be honest.
This third iteration seems better equipped with a decidedly modern design optimized for efficiency. Built on Nissan’s CMF-EV platform, which it shares with the ARIYA, the new LEAF promises significantly improved performance. Nissan’s “3-in-1” powertrain, integrating motor, inverter, and reducer into a compact module, offers better energy management, increased efficiency, and extended range.
Nissan cannot afford to fail
While exact specifications will only be revealed later this year, Nissan promises significant improvements to enhance its appeal to European consumers. Special attention is also given to sustainability and eco-friendly manufacturing. The LEAF will be produced in Sunderland, UK, as part of the ambitious EV36Zero project. This initiative aims to create a zero-emission ecosystem for electric vehicle manufacturing, supported by a one-billion-pound investment.
With Nissan’s long-term vision of becoming carbon neutral by 2050, this new LEAF is not just a vehicle. It bears part of the chance for the survival of the Japanese brand Nissan. Even if the Micra is appealing, it is just a rebadged Renault 5, and in automotive history, few copies have been as beloved as the original. A tremendous pressure, but most importantly, a chance for this dear LEAF to finally shine!
