No, the explanation is much simpler: a very high speed violation on the A62 highway. A young driver, 30 years old, was indeed caught by the Gendarmerie driving at 229 km/h, nearly 80 km/h over the limit.

This young driver was certainly eager to test the acceleration promised by Tesla, namely a top speed of 262 km/h, as well as the 0 to 100 km/h in 3.1 seconds. For reference, the power output of the Model 3 Performance is 460 horsepower.

In France, a significant speed violation of more than 80 km/h above the authorized limit on the highway is considered a very serious offense and leads to severe consequences. Here are the main consequences:

1. Immediate withdrawal of driving license for a maximum duration of 72 hours.
2. Suspension of driving license for up to 3 years (this suspension is decided by the prefect or the judge).
3. Fine of 1,500 euros.
4. Obligation to complete a road safety awareness course.
5. Confiscation of the vehicle, if the driver is its owner.
6. Withdrawal of 6 points from the driving license (this is the maximum number of points that can be deducted for a single violation).
7. In case of reoffending within three years, the offense is reclassified as a crime and may result in a prison sentence of up to three months.
