Polestar makes a major move in the transfer market

Polestar has just announced the name of its new Chief of Design. A great catch for the ambitious manufacturer.

For a car to sell well, it must first catch the eye, Polestar understands this well. As with any object of desire, the interior beauty of a car is essential, and what about its technical specifications? But we primarily buy a car because we find it attractive!

The cousin brand of Volvo, belonging to the same Chinese group Geely, has gone on a recruitment hunt in Germany and has come back with a magnificent trophy. Philipp Römers joins Polestar as the Chief of Design. An established automotive designer for over 25 years, Römers is leaving Audi, where he was responsible for exterior design for 10 years. Before joining Audi, he was one of the leading designers at Volkswagen from 2005 to 2014. He is notably responsible for the stunning Audi E-tron.

Is Polestar changing course?

He takes the place of another defector from the Volkswagen Group, Maximilian Missoni, who is taking on other roles within the Group. Missoni initiated the current very angular and minimalist Polestar style. A recognizable style that has helped establish a strong brand identity for such a young company. But design is one thing; marketing is another. Polestar currently sells only one car in Europe, the Polestar 2, while the SUV 3 is struggling to make itself known. This is unusual in the automotive world, where models under development are not lacking, with the midsize crossover 4, the sedan 5, and the sporty 6.

The next model to be sold is the Polestar 4, which begins its commercialization on the old continent this week. By changing its stylistic editorial direction, Polestar risks rapidly making its very young current lineup seem outdated. It is hard to imagine a star
designer with an inflated ego like Römers treading in the footsteps of his predecessor. We shall see!
