Paris-Nice: Electric Vehicles Just as Fast as Gasoline-powered Cars?

Peugeot 3008

The Peugeot E-3008 with a record range of over 700 km in the Long Range version boasts of this achievement.

The new STLA Medium platform has enabled the Peugeot E-3008 to reach 701 km of WLTP cycle range, surpassing segment benchmarks, including of course the Tesla Model Y. To showcase its technology, Peugeot prides itself on the platform’s ability to perform a Paris-Nice trip, approximately 950 km, with only two charging stops. The diesel enthusiasts are already chuckling, as they manage to cover this distance in one go, effortlessly, with their trusty internal combustion engine. Electric motors will soon be capable of the same, that’s for sure. Yes, but with a diesel, you can refuel in 3 minutes and be ready to go back. That’s entirely true, and we can even add to their argument by stating that it’s unlikely that a recharge will be as quick as a fill-up any time soon.

The famous Stellantis STLA Medium platform

Let’s admit it, but if recharging takes less than ten minutes and you take a short break every two hours to stretch, use the restroom, and have a coffee, how much does your total travel time change upon arrival? This isn’t some radical pro-electrical vehicle rhetoric but simply a factual observation. Of course, this requires adopting calm and reasonable driving habits. So if you want to do 900 km in one go, go ahead, but it’s still foolish.

Peugeot can therefore rightly claim that this performance, available in the Long Range version of the STLA Medium platform, is comparable to that of a vehicle with an internal combustion engine that makes stops to refuel and allows the driver to rest.

The Peugeot E-3008, Peugeot E-5008, and Opel Grandland are already built on the STLA Medium platform, and five more models are expected by the end of 2026.
