No redesigned Tesla Model Y in 2024… in the United States

Tesla reportedly informed its American employees that no updated version of the Model Y would be released in 2024. Really?

In the age of globalization, it’s not easy to avoid flooding the planet with a product once it is introduced. Managing customer impatience is no simple task. And this is the challenge currently faced by Tesla with its vehicles, which are as eagerly awaited by a community of fans as the latest iPhone from Apple.

The launch in China, followed by Europe, of the updated version of the Model 3 had already caused some resentment across the Atlantic. Early enthusiasts did not understand why an American company would prioritize other markets over its own. To divert attention and quell the controversy, Tesla hurriedly launched its electric pickup Cybertruck in the United States… but no other market seems eager to truly import it.

An internally communication with double-edged impact?

The year 2024 for Tesla USA will be dedicated to launching the Model 3 and boosting the Cybertruck. The other projects are not lacking for the Californian manufacturer: building a new factory in Mexico, developing a future $25,000 model, possibly bringing back the Model 3 production to Europe, etc.

Therefore, Tesla is said to have sent an internal communication to its US employees informing them that there would be no launch of the restyled Model Y in 2024. The idea is to provide them with messaging to handle persistent customer questions. The Model Y is simply being kept in dealerships to maintain its appeal, not to clear stock ahead of a replacement.

But no sales in 2024 in the United States does not mean no release elsewhere in the world. Once the new Model Y is revealed in China and Europe, the impact on sales across the Atlantic will also be felt. Yet another consequence of globalization…
