Mercedes SUV EQS

Mercedes continues its push into the electric vehicle market. After the EQS and EQE, the German manufacturer unveils a third model based on its new modular architecture: the EQS SUV.

As the name suggests, this model is the SUV counterpart of the EQS sedan. The connection between the two models is especially noticeable inside, as the giant Hyperscreen panel is also present in the new model. Measuring 1.42 meters wide, it features three screens, including a 12.3-inch screen for the passenger.

The bodywork offers no surprises: as expected, Mercedes has adopted the main lines of the Maybach EQS concept, while removing some aesthetic embellishments along the way. The smooth shapes enhance the vehicle’s aerodynamics. The solid grille and light strips mark the model’s belonging to the EQ family.

Unsurprisingly, the EQS SUV borrows heavily from the Maybach EQS concept.

An EQS SUV Capable of Seating 7 Passengers

Measuring 5.12 meters in length, 1.96 meters in width, and 1.72 meters in height, the EQS SUV is what you might call a handsome beast. Coupled with a 3.21-meter wheelbase, these generous dimensions have allowed for a spacious interior. Passengers in the second row benefit from an electrically adjustable bench. An optional third row of seats increases the capacity to seven passengers. The trunk capacity varies from 565 to 2020 liters depending on the interior configuration.

The bench is foldable in 3 sections.

Over 600 km Range

The EQS SUV is slightly more powerful than the sedan it is based on. At launch, it will offer two motor options: one of 360 hp (EQS 450+) and one of 544 hp (EQS 580). Mercedes does not specify the range details. The only known information at this stage is that it could exceed 600 km. The 107.8 kWh battery is guaranteed for 10 years or 150,000 miles. On fast chargers, it can go from 10% to 80% in about 30 minutes.

Although primarily designed for long-distance travel on paved roads, the EQS SUV can also venture onto more challenging terrains thanks to an Off-road driving mode. Equipped with an additional motor on the front axle, the 4MATIC version features four-wheel drive. The version without all-wheel drive delivers power only to the rear wheels.

The EQS SUV will be launched at the end of the year. Production will take place at the Tuscaloosa plant in the United States. Later, the facility will also produce the EQE SUV, which will be unveiled in the coming months. The batteries will come from a new Mercedes factory located a few hundred kilometers from Tuscaloosa.
