LOA at €267/month: It’s the Kia Niro EV’s turn to taunt Tesla

Tesla has triggered a strong wave of promotions on Long-Term Rentals, Kia updating its electric Niro.

As a preamble, it is clearly good to remind a small rule: each taxpayer is not eligible for the ecological bonus as often as they wish. There are 3-year cycles to respect. Therefore, if a Long-term Lease (LOA) or Long-term Rental (LDD) interest you, it’s useless to choose less than 37 months, otherwise you will be stuck at the time of renewal. There remains an even more philosophical debate: what will the ecological bonus be in 3 years? It will probably have disappeared…

Now let’s focus on the topic of the day: the Kia Niro EV that the South Korean manufacturer is pricing at the price of gasoline this September 2024. How? Thanks to a €10,000 grant on the 37-month LOA offer for 30,000 kilometers. In this case, no headaches with the French ecological bonus, as the electric SUV does not qualify.

The payment breakdown is as follows: first payment of €5,000, then 36 other payments of €267. So, over the entire period, that totals €14,612.

Is it really interesting?

It is true that compared to the current offer of the Skoda Enyaq 60 which is even cheaper (around -30%), one might think that this Kia Niro is at a disadvantage. But the South Korean has arguments to make, starting with a better range than the Czech SUV. With its 64.8 kWh battery, the Niro EV promises up to 460 km in mixed-cycle, which is about 60 km more than the Enyaq. Tesla also offers it with its Model Y currently at €299 / month after a down payment of €5,500.

Compared to Skoda, the power is also slightly higher, with 150 kW or 204 horsepower, providing appreciable dynamism. For the rest, the equipment is very similar and the design is more assertive, which may appeal or deter.

In the end, to put it simply, if the monthly budget is a real issue, then the Skoda remains more interesting. The Kia Niro positions itself halfway with the Tesla Model Y, which is even more relevant, but also more expensive.
