2024 Chevrolet Blazer EV Police Pursuit Vehicle

Model of the Chevrolet lineup since 2019, the Blazer is also becoming electric and is the perfect choice for police forces in the United States.

For many, the Blazer is the two-door 4×4 from the 1970s and 1980s. Becoming more civilised and a five-door in the 1990s, it disappeared in 2005 before returning to the catalog in 2019. But it was still a classic crossover, available only with four-cylinder and V6 petrol engines.

The Chevrolet Blazer Divides into 100% Electric

As with the Silverado pickup, the Blazer adopts an “EV” version, fully electric. But it has nothing to do with its thermal counterpart. First, its design is more aggressive. The platform is also electric, the same as the Silverado, the Cadillac Celestiq, or the GMC Hummer EV.

It therefore benefits from GM Ultium battery technology, designed in partnership with LG Chem, with ranges from 400 to 515 km depending on the model. Charging is among the best, up to 190 kW on the RS and SS versions with large batteries. Furthermore, the Blazer EV offers multiple configurations, including front-wheel drive, rear-wheel drive, and all-wheel drive.

Manufactured in Ramos Arizpe (Mexico), the Chevrolet Blazer EV will begin production in summer 2023 with mid-range trims 2LT and RS. Its starting price is $47,595, which will drop to $44,995 (about €44,500) for the 1LT variant in 2024.

Meanwhile, the high-end SS model (shown in photos) will arrive at the end of 2023 at $65,995. Its competitors include the Ford Mustang Mach-E and Tesla Model Y, but it does not plan to export outside North America.

A Special Police Version

The three major American groups are used to converting some of their models into police versions. Ford prefers the SUV Explorer now, no longer the old Crown Victoria, and Dodge (Stellantis group) also offers the Durango alongside the Charger sedan. As for General Motors, the Chevrolet Blazer is the most attractive offering. Why? “It reduces the frequency and cost of maintenance typically associated with this type of fleet vehicles” states GM Fleet Vice President Ed Peper.

The electric crossover will thus offer a PPV (Police Patrol Vehicle) version starting in 2024. It will be based on the SS trim with its 557 horsepower. The Blazer will therefore be capable of reaching 100 km/h in less than 4 seconds. The 467 km range will not discourage long pursuits.
