Alpine A390

Alpine had the good idea to present to the public at the 24 Hours of Le Mans the A390, its very first 100% electric SUV.

Symbolizing a new chapter, the A390 is not just a simple novelty, but a demonstration of ambition for Alpine. It marks a major strategic turning point as the French brand, founded in 1955 by Jean Rédélé, celebrates its 70th anniversary. The A110 forged the brand’s legend through its successes in rally, including a championship win in 1973. Relaunched in 2017, Alpine is now embarking on a new 100% electric era with its “Dream Garage” strategy, inaugurated by the sporty city car A290. The A390 constitutes the second pillar… and the boldest one.

Initially presented as the concept car A390_β at the 2024 Paris Motor Show, this fastback SUV quickly captivated audiences. Its sharp design, “Cosmic Dust” light signature, and five-seat format give it a unique look, far from the clichés of traditional SUVs. Alpine prefers to refer to it as a “Sport Fastback,” as its sleek silhouette stands out in the segment.

At 4.62 m long, 1.89 m wide, and 1.53 m high, the A390 presents compact dimensions for a high-performance SUV, with a wheelbase of 2.71 m and a trunk volume of 532 liters. Thanks to careful engineering, it claims a weight distribution of 49% at the front and 51% at the rear, ensuring balance and agility, despite a weight of 2,121 kg.

The A390 is built on Renault’s AmpR Medium platform and introduces a novel three-motor architecture: a synchronous wound rotor motor at the front and two permanent magnet motors at the rear. This configuration ensures all-wheel drive combined with an active torque distribution system that adjusts in real-time the power to each rear wheel to guarantee traction, stability, and responsiveness.

Two versions are offered: GT (400 hp, 0 to 100 km/h in 4.8 seconds) and GTS (470 hp, 0 to 100 km/h in 3.9 seconds). This level of performance, comparable to that of the A110 R, is now offered in a five-seat format, designed for versatile use.

A careful range

Under the floor, a Verkor 89 kWh battery ensures up to 555 km of range depending on the configuration. Charging is rapid thanks to a DC power of 190 kW, allowing the battery to go from 15% to 80% in 25 minutes. The interior carries Alpine’s DNA: Sabelt bucket seats, heated sporty Nappa leather steering wheel, center console inspired by the A110, and dual 12-inch screens. Specific touches such as the blue RCH button (regeneration adjustment) or the red OV button (overtaking function) recall the world of competition. The sound ambiance is entrusted to an 850 W Devialet system distributed over 13 speakers.

The A390 is already being produced in France, in Dieppe, at the Manufacture Alpine Jean Rédélé. The engines come from the Cléon factory, in the suburbs of Rouen, while the battery cells are manufactured by Verkor in Dunkirk, then assembled in Douai. A 100% French design, faithful to the brand’s heritage.

The launch is planned for the fourth quarter of 2025, at a price range between 65,000 and 76,000 euros depending on the versions. With the A390, Alpine succeeds in staying true to its sporty spirit and its Norman roots while stepping fully into the electric era.
