Tesla Model Y at zero percent: be careful not to confuse the offers!
Tesla is promoting zero percent interest on its Model Y. But behind this appealing promise, two different mechanisms are hidden: the traditional loan, already offered in 2024, and the lease with an option to buy currently advertised.
The zero percent interest rate at Tesla is nothing revolutionary. Starting in September 2024, the manufacturer offered in France, in collaboration with Crédit Agricole Auto Bank, a credit sale at 0% for the Model Y. This operation concerned vehicles ordered and delivered before September 30, with a maximum financing duration of 48 months. Mobiwisy covered it at the time.
The principle of a traditional loan is simple: the buyer gradually repays the borrowed amount. Once the installments are settled, no additional amount remains to be paid to keep the car. The financing thus directly accompanies a purchase.
There is zero and zero
The currently highlighted offer at 229 euros per month works differently. It is a lease with an option to buy for 36 months, for a Model Y Propulsion, with a package of 10,000 kilometers per year. Tesla announces an initial payment of 9,200 euros, including a deduction of a 3,600 euros CEE bonus, followed by 35 monthly payments of 229 euros.
Most importantly, keeping the SUV requires paying a final purchase option of 23,774 euros. Otherwise, it must be returned, potentially incurring fees related to its condition or exceeding the mileage. The small monthly payments therefore do not correspond to the full repayment of the vehicle.
This campaign applies to applications submitted from October 1 to December 31, 2026, with delivery before the end of the year, subject to conditions. It cannot be combined with the Tesla trade-in bonus.
The zero percent interest deserves attention, but the monthly payment never tells the whole story. To compare seriously, one must look at the initial payment, the installments, and, above all, the amount necessary to become a owner.
