Tesla Model Y: €3 per 100 km, but under what conditions?

Comment
Tesla Model Y

Tesla brings savings to the forefront with a Model Y priced at €32,390 and an electricity cost nearly five times lower than that of gasoline. A promise that deserves some explanations.

Fifteen euros to travel 100 kilometers on gasoline, three euros for electric: Tesla has found an effective way to speak to motorists’ wallets. In its latest French communication, the manufacturer supports this comparison with a Model Y Propulsion listed at €32,390. But where’s the novelty?

Not in a new catalog price drop. This price was already offered this summer. The trade-in offer of €5,000 is extended for orders in the fourth quarter, with delivery expected before December 31, 2026, subject to stock availability.

To reach the price of €32,390, Tesla deducts from the price of €40,990 this commercial bonus and €3,600 from the “Coup de pouce” CEE premium, subject to eligibility conditions. Therefore, you must hand over your vehicle to Tesla. Another essential detail: the discount applies to cash payments or external financing but excludes Tesla Credit and Tesla Financing options.

The €3 assumes home charging!

The energy calculation is based on precise assumptions: 14 kWh/100 km for the Model Y, at €0.23/kWh, compared to 7.63 l/100 km for a comparable gasoline car, at €1.99/liter. The result: €3.22 and €15.18, respectively.

These energy prices were recorded on August 25, 2026. Moreover, Tesla considers home charging and excludes the installation costs of a charging station. On public charging stations, especially fast ones, the bill can increase and the gap may narrow.

The argument remains convincing for those charging at home. But these savings only concern energy: they do not summarize the total cost of ownership or the profitability of changing cars. The real good calculation begins with your usage.
