Stellantis: Three French factories face partial unemployment threat

Partial unemployment periods are announced in Mulhouse, Rennes, and Sochaux, but their reality and extent remain to be confirmed

Several French Stellantis factories may experience production stoppages in October. According to ABC Bourse, Mulhouse would suspend its production from October 15 to 30. Rennes would experience seven days of partial unemployment at the end of the month, while Sochaux would interrupt its activity for several days, without a detailed schedule.

The manufacturer acknowledges an industrial adjustment in a statement reproduced by the media: “we are temporarily adjusting our industrial program.” Stellantis cites the availability of components and the need to respond to commercial expectations. These remarks confirm the principle of adaptation, without explicitly validating all the announced dates.

The causes would differ according to the establishments. In Mulhouse, commercial difficulties and a reduction of the workforce to one and a half teams starting in November are mentioned. In Rennes and Sochaux, the constraints would, however, concern the supply of batteries for the long-range electric versions.

A real battery problem

This industrial vulnerability was identified before autumn. In the establishment agreement for Sochaux signed in February 2026, management already indicated that production depended on the capacities of suppliers. The document specifically provided for possible modifications to the work schedule, both upwards and downwards, according to supplies and market evolution. However, it does not constitute any confirmation of the unemployment days mentioned today.

Caution remains necessary regarding the social impact of these stoppages. The consulted elements do not allow for establishing a total number of affected employees, nor the compensation modalities specific to each site. Official clarifications are still awaited to accurately assess the consequences.
