After Jaguar and Waymo, here comes Lucid and Bolt!

Lucid Bolt

With at least 25,000 robotaxis planned in Europe, Bolt could provide a welcome outlet for Lucid amid turmoil.

Autonomous cars can also serve those who manufacture them. Jaguar knows this well: its electric I-Pace has become the face of Waymo robotaxis in the United States. In May 2025, the operator announced the integration of over 2,000 additional units, following a fleet of 1,500 vehicles. This offers a significant industrial outlet, paired with a remarkable technological showcase. It’s a great service to the British manufacturer, though it does not claim to have saved it.

Could Bolt provide a similar lifeline to Lucid? The European platform aims to deploy at least 25,000 vehicles from its future Midsize architecture. It plans to own and operate this fleet, designed for Level 4 autonomous driving, relying on NVIDIA Hyperion.

A car sold is a good car!

For Lucid, the stakes clearly go beyond technological demonstration. In the second quarter of 2026, the manufacturer recorded a net loss of $1.03 billion against only $405 million in revenue. It voluntarily reduced its production to lower inventories and preserve cash flow, while launching a $1.4 billion cash flow improvement plan. However, Lucid still had $3 billion in cash, with funding announced as sufficient to continue operations well into 2027.

In this context, the volumes envisaged by Bolt could help amortize investments and reduce dependence on individual buyers. This is a valuable prospect for a brand that delivered only 3,953 cars in the last quarter.

But ambition does not immediately fill the coffers. No detailed timeline, contract amount, or initial cities have been announced. After Jaguar, robotaxis could therefore support another manufacturer, provided that promises turn into deliveries.
