Tesla moves closer to Formula E… or almost!

Tesla Formula E

Unfortunately, no, we will not see a Tesla on the starting grid of Formula E this season, but maybe tomorrow.

This nice nod comes from a contest organized by Tesla France and G Yachts. But the imminent arrival of Gen 4, scheduled for the 2026/2027 season, opens a credible window for the American manufacturer to finally take the leap.

Gen 4 promises to be a true revolution in the world of electric racing. Imagine: up to 600 kW (approximately 815 hp) in Attack mode, representing a massive increase in power compared to Gen 3. The car features permanent all-wheel drive (AWD), a regeneration rate of 700 kW, a 55 kWh battery, and configurable aerodynamics (high or low downforce). Acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h in about 1.8 seconds, a top speed exceeding 335 km/h, and laps around 10 seconds faster during qualifying. Lighter, more powerful, more efficient, and even 100% recyclable: Gen 4 places Formula E at the top of the hierarchy of electric single-seaters.

Formula E Teases F1

And where it gets exciting is that Tesla already has the technology to launch a competitively viable project immediately. Its electric motors, ultra-efficient battery management systems, mastery of sporty all-wheel drive in the Plaid and Performance models, and advanced control algorithms are perfectly suited to this new regulation. Massive regeneration? Tesla practices this daily on its production vehicles. Permanent AWD? It’s in their DNA. With its expertise in software and energy optimization, a Tesla in Gen 4 could be in the mix right from the start, without needing years of development.
