With the upcoming arrival of the Twingo, there are major moves currently underway at Renault. In short, the electric vehicle lineup pyramid needs to be coherently redesigned in the catalog. Revealed this Thursday, November 6, 2025, the Twingo will represent the new ultra-appealing entry point to the brand’s decarbonized range.

But for that to happen, the Renault 5 and the Renault 4 will need to regain some altitude in terms of range… at least on paper. For this, and after a year on the market, the French manufacturer can leverage its feedback to adapt these two products.

On October 31, 2025, the French government updated the list of electric vehicles eligible for the CEE Bonus. And, surprise, the Renault 4 and Renault 5 introduced new variants.

In the automotive world, each component either reveals itself or acquires a role: engine, battery, software… but also technical reference, software calibration, version number. Beyond commercial names, chassis or engine numbers, alphanumeric sequences like P01RHEA3BEA5E5E000 structure a manufacturer’s engineering.

The law sets a precise list of “versions of electric passenger cars that have achieved the minimum environmental score mentioned in 3° of Article D. 251-1 of the Energy Code.” This means that for an electric vehicle to be eligible for certain purchase or leasing incentives, it is not enough for it to be “electric”: it must also be identified in this list, at the exact version (brand, model, type-variant-version). This is where the “internal code/calibration” really matters.

A concrete illustration

A manufacturer can thus assign to each software version, each mechanical or electrical configuration (battery, motor, software), a precise identifier. And this identifier, if it is referenced in this list, becomes a criterion for eligibility.

Among the many models listed in the decree, there are notably three Renault 5 with variants “P01RBEA1BEA1A5E000”, “P01RBEA2BEA6F5E000”, etc. This type of code follows a common logic: “P01” for project phase 01, then a series of letters/numbers defining the version, variant, calibration…

Renault therefore resubmitted for approval seven models as of October 31: two Alpines, three Renault 5 and Renault 4. Knowing that the hardcore parts (mechanical components) will not evolve, we can logically deduce that these updates concern the software of these electric cars.
