Tesla Model Y Launch Edition, a collector’s item that has aged poorly?
Several months after its initial release, the Tesla Model Y Launch Edition has lost all relevance.
Remember! In January 2025, Tesla unveiled the redesigned version of its Model Y. Starting in China and then in Europe, a fully equipped trim called Launch Edition was sold. Black or gray paint (Quicksilver), 20-inch wheels, black interior (free of charge then…), power boost… and even a trailer hitch!
However, the shocking part was the price, a crazy 60,990 euros. When viewed in context, it’s almost the same as the flagship version now at the top of the range, the Model Y Performance, priced starting at 61,990 euros.

A Very Mysterious Range!
As of October 2025, Tesla France’s inventory still includes the Model Y Launch Edition. One has to wonder if this trim has really found its audience or if it is more of a demo vehicle for dealerships.
In fact, the French website features an example with only 12 kilometers on the odometer (thus brand new) gathering dust in Plaisance-du-Touch, Occitanie, near Toulouse. Its price has been adjusted downward by 1,620 euros, bringing it to 59,384 euros.
But this price is still higher than a Model Y Premium All-Wheel Drive (formerly Large Range All-Wheel Drive), which serves as the base model and is equipped with all options. So, what’s the point of choosing a Launch Edition, if not to show off in society?
Another intriguing point: the range displayed by the Model Y Launch Edition: 568 km. That’s 32 km less than a Premium All-Wheel Drive with 20-inch wheels (600 km), and even 61 km less than a version with 19-inch wheels (629 km)! What could be the reason? Are Launch Editions manufactured in China with a different homologation?
What’s certain is that the current Model Y models listed in the catalog have gained autonomy since the launch phase earlier this year.
