Yamaha Crosscore RC 2023

The Japanese manufacturer Yamaha confirms three upcoming electric bikes, including an urban Crosscore RC, a gravel, and an e-MTB.

In spring, Yamaha launched its “Switch On” operation. Basically, a shift towards electric mobility. This event was mainly focused on motorized two-wheelers, confirming the launch of two electric models, 50 and 125 cc. Simultaneously, the Japanese manufacturer briefly displayed electric bikes with no further details.

Yamaha Crosscore RC Urban E-Bike

Six months later, Yamaha officially presents its three upcoming bikes for the European, and thus French, market. Among them is an urban electric bike named Crosscore RC.

This model appears to be similar to a touring bike, with an upright riding position, high frame, straight handlebar, Shimano chain derailleur, and a suspended fork. In the promotional photos, it omits fenders and rear racks, at least in the basic version. These are essential elements for daily commuting or everyday use. As for the electric system, the central motor in the crankset is proprietary, providing 70 Nm of torque. This Yamaha PW-ST unit draws power from a removable 500 Wh battery. The battery is integrated at the front beneath the frame, which helps protect against rain but may be less effective against splashes without fenders. Assistance and information are provided via a small monochrome display on the handlebar.

This Yamaha Crosscore RC will only arrive in France in early 2023 at a still unknown price. We estimate it around €3,000. It will be available in three sizes – S, M, and L – and two colors: light green and white. The weight is estimated at 23.9 kg in size M, roughly average for the market. However, availability is a concern, “exclusively through Yamaha Powered Two Wheel dealerships”.

A Wabash RT gravel and a Moro 07 e-Mountain Bike

Two other bikes support Yamaha’s launch. The Wabash RT electric gravel bike is based on the Crosscore RC’s frame, motor, battery, display, and drivetrain. It features a fixed fork, typical gravel handlebar, suitable tires, a seat with a telescopic post, and Shimano GRX seems to handle the transmission.

The electric mountain bike is the Yamaha Moro 07, a name recalling the MT-07 motorcycle. Fully independent from the other two models, this e-MTB features a PW-X3 motor, offering up to 85 Nm torque at high speed, with only 2.8 kg added to the weight, powered by a 500 Wh battery. Its compact design includes a double frame, RockShox suspension, Magura MT5 brakes, Shimano XT 12-speed transmission, and 27.5-inch Maxxis tires.

Likewise, we will have to wait until this winter for the first orders and pricing details.
