MV Agusta Ampelio

The MV Agusta Ampelio is a very Latin retro look, hiding a technical base provided by the Taiwanese company Kymco.

Known for its high-performance motorcycles, MV Agusta has also marketed scooters in the past. With the Ampelio, the Italian brand makes a double hit: as it re-enters this vehicle category, it also takes a step into electric mobility.

Unveiled during the Milan EICMA, the Ampelio was developed in collaboration with Kymco, which already has solid experience in electric two-wheelers. Playing heavily on retro design, it aims to evoke the Ovunque, an old 125cc thermal motorcycle from MV Agusta. The link between the two scooters is especially evident in the prominent front headlight, the rounded rear section, and the double seat. The small rectangular digital screen on the handlebar and the large LED front lights add a touch of modernity that firmly anchors the scooter in its era.

The Ampelio is powered by a 4.1 kW electric motor, which can temporarily deliver 7 kW peak power. Weighing 121 kg including the batteries, it can reach a maximum speed of 95 km/h and accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 3.7 seconds. The two removable batteries are the same as those used in the Kymco S7 that served as its base. The total capacity reaches 3.5 kWh, and the range is estimated at around 85 km.

An MV Agusta Ampelio production model expected in 2023

The presence of batteries under the seat does not completely rule out the trunk. It is even large enough to hold a helmet. The inclusion of a keyless start system will also make daily life easier.

The industrialization phase for the Ampelio has not yet begun, but MV Agusta seems determined to follow through with its idea. The brand even reportedly aims to market this model as early as next year. No price has been announced at this stage.
