Driver’s License: The National Assembly Aims to Offer Support

A bill was passed in first reading this Monday, March 27, for a new platform to 지원 driving license financing.

Why is the B license so difficult to obtain?

In 2019, a report from Road Safety revealed disparities between regions in success rates on the first attempt for the B license. In more rural areas like Cantal and Loiret, success rates averaged around 71%. Urban departments like Haute-Garonne and Alpes-Maritimes saw lower averages around 57%. In Paris, success on the first try drops even further to 54%. Special mention to Vaucluse, which had a pass rate of 49.3% for the B license in 2019.

Although subject to certain legal obligations, driving schools are free to set their prices. As a result, high prices for passing the exam can be found, especially in Paris. The UFC-Que Choisir association announced that the average cost of obtaining a driving license was €1,804 in 2016 across the territory. Paris had the highest, with an average expenditure of €2,140 for the B license.
