Review of Decathlon Btwin Elops LD 500 E Electric Bike (VIDEO)

New electric bike from the Btwin Elops range, the Decathlon LD 500 E is a modern high-autonomy model starting at €1,649.

At the same time as the Fold Light 1 folding bike, Decathlon is also renewing its electric bikes. The latest e-bike in the Btwin range is called LD 500 and targets users for their daily commute. It is derived from the muscular LD, with LD standing for “Long Distance.”

A minimum range of 60 km

For this model, Btwin has moved away from the Dutch style of its Elops. The Decathlon LD 500 E has a more modern appearance, without going overboard. It is offered in two different versions with a classic diamond frame and semi-open frame, better suited for smaller sizes and women.

Its 45 Nm motor is housed in the rear hub, closer to the small 35 Nm of the 900 E than the 70 Nm of the 920 E. Like all e-bikes, the top speed is 25 km/h. The removable battery has a capacity of 504 Wh (14 Wh), the largest in the Decathlon range, providing up to 60 kilometers in maximum mode. In the lightest mode (1 out of 3), the range could reach 115 km.

The LD 500 E draws inspiration from non-electric bikes but adds hydraulic disc brakes, new wheels, and puncture-proof tires. It retains the handlebar, original 8-speed chainring, lighting, and rear rack.

The price of the Decathlon LD 500 E

The advantage of this electric bike is its price. The Decathlon LD 500 E costs €1,649 in both high and low frame versions. The low frame offers two sizes S and M, while the high frame is available in three sizes M, L, and XL. Four color options are available, including anthracite gray and green-gray at launch, with red and white coming soon.
