A Cemetery of New Electric Cars in China
This page is translated from the original post "Un cimetière de voitures électriques neuves en Chine" in French.

We didn’t think we’d see such a spectacle, yet in China, thousands of new and electric cars are left stranded on abandoned land.
The YouTuber Serpentza, who has over a million followers on the platform, published a video in which you can see, even in close-up, hundreds and hundreds of new electric vehicles on an empty lot. The video in question has already surpassed 2.5 million views in less than a week.
For years, many lines of electric vehicles from the country have been spreading worldwide, with MG, BYD, and others. Despite this expansion, the country hides a major dark zone, or at least that is what this video shows.
Cars never used, abandoned in fields…
It’s an environmental disaster. The YouTuber was able to film footage, as well as obtain drone images dating back several months. In these images, it’s clear that the cars have never been used. Plastic covers are placed on the seats, and the white paint on the bodywork is starting to yellow due to the sun. Especially, the growth of weeds up to the level of the wheels demonstrates that the cars are indeed brand new and unused.
To receive government aid
The YouTuber suspects that the solution found by manufacturers allows companies to benefit from government support. The cars each have their own license plates. A tactic that enables various firms to make it appear as if they have sold the cars, in order to claim the aid later.
This isn’t the first graveyard of vehicles to be discovered. In China, another one was found—this time a cemetery of bikes, as reported by our colleagues at Bloomberg.
