In May 2022, the two companies announced the first gigawatt battery factory in the USA, specifically in Indiana. Today, they announce that they have reached a memorandum of understanding for a second factory in the country. 

The factory is scheduled to start in 2027, with an initial annual production of 34 gigawatt-hours. The first factory in Indiana will have a production capacity of 33 gigawatt-hours, one less than the second which will open in four years. 

The sixth gigawatt battery factory of Stellantis 

Stellantis has just announced its sixth gigawatt battery factory internationally, the second in the United States, after the one located in Indiana. “This new factory will help us achieve our ambitious goal of offering at least 25 new electric vehicle models in the North American market by the end of the decade,” said Carlos Tavares, CEO of Stellantis, in a statement on the company’s website. The five other factories are located in France, Germany, and Italy for Europe. The remaining factories are and will be on the American continent, with one in the United States and the last one in Canada.

Another factory for carbon neutrality 

The Stellantis group aims to achieve carbon neutrality by 2038. An objective they hope to reach with the construction of this new factory, in partnership with Samsung SDI. No other information has been disclosed by the company. We do not know the location of the new factory, nor the number of employees who will work there.
