Starting November 1, 2023, and until March 31, 2024, the Mountain Law is activated. What are your obligations?
In 34 departments of France, compared to the originally planned 48 departments, the Mountain Law will be implemented starting tomorrow to enhance user safety. According to the law, drivers traveling in these departments must be equipped with 4 snow tires or have chains/snow socks. Winter tires are those marked with 3PMSF and/or M+S.
Signage indicates to road users the entry into an area where equipment obligations apply.
If you do not comply with these obligations, you risk a fine of 135 euros and immobilization of your vehicle. In theory only, as again this year no fines are expected to be issued for violations.
