By finally turning toward highly desirable products that are less volume-driven and less focused on economies of scale, like the R5 E-Tech, Renault is adopting the methods of Tesla or Peugeot. Two brands whose profits are astonishing compared to their financial health less than 10 years ago.

A super star R5!

Renault achieved another milestone on Monday, February 26, 2024: unveiling the final version of its R5 which will be delivered to customers starting fall 2024. The final version is extremely close to the concept car, even though disappointment is often the norm between dream and reality.

Renault anticipated this situation, and reactions have been overwhelmingly positive ever since, especially regarding the entry price of 25,000 euros before any potential bonus (will it still exist in 2025?), which is also being respected. This is why the Diamond brand has adopted Tesla’s idea for its Cybertruck, namely selling a skip-the-line pass that will give the ability to be among the first to be delivered by the end of 2024.

Its name: R5 R Pass. Offered since November 30, 2023, it costs 150 euros and will allow, 10 days before orders open in September 2024, to configure the vehicle of your dreams. This prioritization of production, managed at the Douai factory in France, is accompanied by a miniature of the Renault 5 E-Tech and invitations to events around the R5 before its launch. Note that these 150 euros are later deducted from the final invoice. Basically, it costs nothing; it just helps you secure your choice.

Currently, only seven countries are eligible for this R5 R Pass skip-the-line option: France, Germany, Italy, Spain, the United Kingdom, Belgium, and the Netherlands.

Now, we hope Renault will keep its commitments and not mimic Tesla, which ultimately forgot paid skip-the-line reservations made two years in advance. The unrest among American customers has still not subsided…
