Is an electric Range Rover still a Range Rover?

The first 100% electric vehicle from the venerable Range Rover brand has begun its road testing.
The Range Rover Electric will deliver performance comparable to that of a V8 Range Rover as well as off-road capabilities developed internally by Land Rover experts, which have been the hallmark of the Range Rover since its creation in 1970.
The prototype testing is underway, with engineers aiming solely to create the quietest and most refined Range Rover ever designed, featuring a unique active noise cancellation setup, attention to sound environment, and a high level of comfort inside the cabin.

After a year of virtual development focused on the robustness of the front axle and the analysis of multi-body systems taking into account chassis requirements as well as wading up to 50 km/h, the first physical vehicles have been produced. Road tests have begun, from Sweden to Dubai, with temperatures ranging from -40°C to +50°C. The global testing program was adapted for Range Rover’s first fully electric vehicle to ensure the robustness of the electric powertrain, including beneath the floor, battery durability, chassis integrity, and dynamic vehicle tests for system protection under high temperatures.
The new Range Rover Electric will be developed and produced in the United Kingdom, on the flexible longitudinal modular architecture (MLA) at Solihull, alongside existing mild hybrid and plug-in hybrid models from the brand. For the first time, batteries and electronic drive units (EDUs) will be built and assembled at JLR’s new electric propulsion manufacturing center in Wolverhampton, UK.
