Michelin Sets a Foot on the Moon
This page is translated from the original post "Michelin pose un pied sur la lune" in French.

The Moon RACER team, which includes Michelin, has been selected by NASA for the feasibility study of Phase 1 of the ARTEMIS project.
Like in the greatest hours of space exploration by pioneers, the prospects of returning to the lunar surface stimulate the ambitions of innovative companies such as Michelin. There will certainly be the flight phase in which the French manufacturer will have no role, but once on the lunar surface, the exploration phase will be a prime opportunity to showcase the brand’s know-how under the Bibendum emblem.
This phase of NASA’s project, titled “Lunar Terrain Vehicle Phase 1 Feasibility Study,” aims to design a Rover capable of operating in extreme conditions on the Moon for 10 years.
Alongside Michelin, the team led by Intuitive Machines also includes AVL, Boeing, and Northrop Grumman Corporation.
Michelin will utilize its expertise in airless tires and high-tech materials to design a lunar wheel capable of withstanding extreme temperatures (above 100°C and below -240°C), solar and galactic radiation, while preserving the Rover’s battery autonomy and ensuring maximum traction on rough, loose terrain.
The advancements developed within this project will allow Michelin to continue innovating in terrestrial applications.
