The Tesla Model Y Long Range Rear-Wheel Drive: Is France Missing Out?

Previously offered at 49,970 euros in Belgium, the new Model Y Long Range is not a surprise.

Finally, one might be tempted to write. As of October 1, 2023, Mobiwisy echoed a technical sheet updated in China for the Tesla Model Y. More power and more range. After numerous inquiries, Tesla eventually confessed that the European version had also gained power to match the Chinese specifications, but the acceleration figures had not changed. Surprising!

On April 12, 2024, quietly and without fanfare, Tesla opened orders in Europe (France is still yet to be served) for a new Long Range variant. Once again, the same values as in China with a 0 to 100 km/h acceleration that has dropped by a second to settle at 5″9. No surprises there.

A Chinese Long Range Variant?

Now the question remains where these models are coming from: from the Berlin factory as is currently the norm for Europe, or from Shanghai? The decline in sales in Asia, which has forced Tesla to slow the production pace of its Chinese factory, suggests this possibility.

For the rest, it’s clear that Tesla, simply through electronics, manages to artificially mute its products. We would not be surprised to learn in a few days that the Long Range version is strictly identical to the standard version, including the mechanical components and battery.

What about France in the end, one of the last countries in Europe to offer an ecological bonus? Perhaps with a price above 47,000 euros, or if production is Chinese, Tesla has convinced itself that there was no point in offering it in France. Would you be surprised by this practice?
