Occasion: Is the Renault Scenic a victim of speculation?

The prices of the first Renault Scenic electric cars on the second-hand market raise questions…

The premise is surprising: it’s impossible to find a Renault Scenic second-hand for less than 40,000 euros in France. And let’s not forget that for these second-hand models, the ecological bonus of 4,000 euros has already been claimed by the first owner. One last important point: ALL Scenic electric vehicles are eligible for the bonus, thanks to a clever trick from Renault: the high-end trims are optional, and thus, are spared from the value cap of 47,000 euros.

Once these parameters are considered, what justifies that some Scenic models, some of which already have nearly 10,000 kilometers on the clock, are so expensive? Is it speculation related to its strong commercial performance? Or the lengthy delivery times?

Fully-equipped models?

We might be tempted to say that this phenomenon largely rests on the fact that the first models produced are often fully equipped. It’s true that a large part of the offer is based on the Esprit Alpine trim, which necessarily involves using the 220-horsepower engine and the long-range battery of 625 km and 87 kWh.

Still, this Esprit Alpine is priced starting at 44,900 euros, after the bonus, and its standard equipment doesn’t even require consulting the options catalog as the equipment is already abundant. The model shown here is a Techno trim priced at 42,990 euros, including the bonus. This seller has inflated the price by 2,000 euros despite having already covered 7,500 km.

Considering that a car generally loses about 25% of its value the moment it leaves the dealership, one has to wonder what some resellers of Renault Scenic electric vehicles are thinking. This folly won’t last, so don’t rush to take the bait. Especially since Tesla is going to lower its prices again in the coming weeks…
