Renault Megane E-Tech, the best-selling electric car in July!

A remarkable performance for the Renault Megane E-Tech, which is the best-selling electric car in France in July 2024.

First victory for the Macron government and the European Union. In the very first month of the history where cars made in China, both Chinese as well as American or European produced in China, lost their right to ecological bonuses and are subject to raised customs duties, the results are already clear. With a French car at the top of electric vehicle sales!

The trend is highly instructive: -99% sales for Dacia (!).

-Aiways: -11%

In contrast, the sales of BYD have doubled, with the manufacturer not changing its pricing policy, simply choosing to reduce its margin. Perhaps even selling at a loss? A mystery.

A stagnant new car market

It should be noted that there were -2.26% fewer new cars sold in July 2024 compared to July 2023, despite having an additional 3 working days in the dealerships, with 126,037 cars registered. Notably, individuals remain active (+3%) while companies are delaying their fleet renewals (-12%).

One of the “surprises” comes from the collapse of Tesla’s sales despite unprecedented commercial campaigns. For instance, while 1,419 Renault Megane E-Tech were sold in July, only 1,205 Tesla Model Y found buyers. The Peugeot 208, surprisingly, ranks third with 1,166 units, likely sold to companies, lessors, or administrations.

Having entered the new car market in July, the Renault R5 remains discreet, but its rise in the coming months will further strengthen the dominance of the French manufacturer. This is good news for the French automotive industry, as the outlook is promising for the future.
