Tesla has launched an ultra-aggressive marketing campaign in Spain with the Model Y starting at €29,490!

We are not the type to scream scandal and mix everything up, no. Therefore, we will detail here why Tesla truly disregards its European customers, offering prices that make no sense between Spain, France, Germany, or England.

The culmination is probably reached this August 2024 with Model Y and Model 3 priced at incredibly competitive rates. But how is this possible, since the configurations or production locations are strictly identical to that of a French version, for example? Made in Germany for the Model Y, Made in China for the Model 3. And with the same European tax rules. Is it a VAT issue? No, Spain is at 21% compared to 20% in France.

The Model 3 starting at €29,760

As a preamble to this article, let us clarify that the ecological transition aids in Spain will be detailed and, sometimes, put aside so that our calculation base is reliable.

Let’s start with the Tesla Model 3, sold starting at €41,490 in France since early July, supposedly due to the new customs duties applied to Chinese vehicles. In Spain, this same Model 3 is displayed starting at €37,970, which is €3,500 less. Period.

As a side note, let’s address the topic of Spanish government aids: €4,500 bonus + €1,210 if you switch to electric for the first time (Move incentive) + €2,500 scrappage bonus. At minimum, a Tesla Model 3 in Spain thus costs €33,470, or even €29,760 if you check all the boxes!

The Model Y starting at €29,400

Let’s continue with the Tesla Model Y, the brand’s best-seller, whose commercial pitch offers it starting at €29,990. In reality, starting from a pre-configured version, the Spanish customer can even get it down to €29,490.

In addition to the bonuses already listed for the Model 3, Tesla adds a “Tesla Boost” of €3,290 for this model. Thus, sticking to only the aids excluding the scrappage bonus, any customer can therefore buy a Model Y for €31,990!

This promotional campaign, valid until September 30, 2024, is not limited to the Propulsion version but is also extended to the Long Range Propulsion.

In the end, it is quite clear that Tesla still has room for margins on its cars. For proof, in France, setting aside the €4,000 ecological bonus, there is nothing that justifies the Model 3 with Chinese labor (95% disappeared as Tesla proudly noted) being more expensive to sell than the Model Y made with German labor. Customs fees should not be blamed here. No, Tesla’s prices are adjusted based on what each market is capable of paying.

This proves that France is not a poor or bankrupt country as some political parties try to make people believe to instill fear.
