Faraday copies Tesla to survive

Understanding that its future depends on China, American manufacturer Faraday is seeking partners. About time!

After 6 laborious years developing, financing, and producing its first model, the FF 91 2.0 EV, Faraday Future has timidly started delivering a few units in 2023. More than timidly even, as according to Faraday Future’s financial report, in 2023 the manufacturer sold… 4 units of the FF 91 2.0 and leased 6. With a total of 10 units on the road, it’s hard to imagine a future for the brand. Quite sad when you want to celebrate the legacy of Michael Faraday, the father of some of the greatest discoveries in the field of electromagnetic induction and electromagnetism nearly a century before the technological advancements attributed to a certain Nikola Tesla…

But let’s return to 2024. Faraday Future can only rely on a single model priced at a staggering $310,000. This sumptuous sports sedan directly competes with Bentley and Rolls-Royce… Already, taking on century-old brands when starting in the industry is like facing Teddy Riner on your very first day of Judo. It smells like a beating! However, the Faraday Future FF 91 2.0 is not without interest, boasting three motors, all-wheel drive, and a 142 kWh battery. It offers a top speed of 250 km/h and can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 2.2 seconds. Unfortunately, its outdated technology, developed over 6 years ago, results in catastrophic efficiency with a range of only 600 km.

Certainly aware of heading for a wall, the board of Faraday Future will announce on September 19 a new strategy focused on China and the creation of a second car brand. A strange choice since having obtained the right to use the name Faraday is ultimately the only true asset of the manufacturer! Tesla, on the other hand, has proven that development in China, particularly for production, is a smart and relevant choice. This new brand will utilize artificial intelligence to, according to Matthias Aydt, Global CEO of Faraday Future, “develop the AI car of the future, the AI car for the people.” Its price is expected to range between 20,000 euros and 80,000 dollars. That’s quite broad and the market is already ultra-saturated. Let’s wait until September 19 for more information, but all of this is hardly reassuring…
