White Motorcycle Concepts électrique

White Motorcycle Concepts has presented an electric version of Yamaha’s 3-wheeled scooter, the Tricity 300, with a range of 160 km.

What Piaggio has failed to do – or does not aim to do – with its best-seller MP3, an English research office has accomplished with Yamaha. Thus, White Motorcycle Concepts, which aims for the world speed record for an electric motorcycle (currently 372 km/h held by Voxam), presents its first turnkey electric solution for manufacturers.

This is a complete powertrain with a battery and electric motor (from the German company MAHLE), capable of delivering solid figures with the modified version of the Yamaha Tricity 300: 100 miles of range in “aggressive use” (160 km) and a top speed of 100 mph (160 km/h). We are thus looking at figures equal to or greater than those of the BMW CE04 reference, for example… except that here, we have the safety of 3 wheels. In so-called “normal” driving, WMC even promises 125 miles of range, which is over 200 km! That remains to be verified…

An XXL Battery

WMC focuses its communication on the appeal of this scooter for fleet customers, subtly suggesting that the cost price is very high? The same goes for the promised charging time of just 15 minutes thanks to an integrated CCS charger. That’s quite ambitious.

To achieve these efficiency performances, WMC explains that part of the secret lies in the scooter’s aerodynamics, with the introduction of a V-Duct, a Venturi duct that runs through the center of the 3-wheeler to reduce drag. The aerodynamic efficiency gain would be 25% compared to the Yamaha Tricity.

The battery is generous with a capacity of 11.9 kWh, but it does not take up all the space under the seat. A full-face helmet can fit there, allowing for a bag when that helmet is on your head.

The technical specs are still largely lacking, as is the notion of price. It’s known that only massive industrialization would allow for lower prices… and that’s where Piaggio particularly has issues. Will Yamaha dare to take on the project? It’s a possibility.
