Citroën resurrects the SM
The legendary Citroën SM returns in the form of a design study presented at Chantilly Arts & Élégance Richard Mille.
An icon of the 1970s, the SM embodied the pinnacle of French automotive innovation. Its unique aerodynamic line was cutting-edge, and its hood housed a powerful Maserati-origin V6. But above all, the SM was known for its hydropneumatic suspension, ensuring exemplary handling. Today, the SM remains a sought-after collector’s item among enthusiasts worldwide.

The spirit of the car is captured in the SM TRIBUTE concept car, featuring a clear lineage marked by an iconic front end and an immediately recognizable profile. The idea is to envision the SM as if it had continued to evolve over the past fifty years.

The SM was characterized by its lack of a grille, featuring instead a large windshield that housed the headlights and the license plate. Five decades later, this windshield becomes a 3D screen that lights up from the center, framed as back then by three light modules on each side. Of course, the rear wheels are covered by removable panels. Large 22-inch wheels enhance the design.

The interior of the original 1970 model is also reinterpreted, featuring a dashboard with highly divisive projection display that sparked debate at the time, and a fixed hub steering wheel. Beige reigns supreme with an ivory shade for the leather and Alcantara, and the seats reflect the historical design with horizontal cushions.
Partners of Chantilly Arts & Élégance Richard Mille organized by Peter Auto since 2014, Citroën and DS will present the SM TRIBUTE on the occasion of the tenth anniversary of the competition held at the Château de Chantilly. The behind-the-scenes story of this incredible project can be discovered on the dedicated site DSDESIGNSTUDIO.PARIS.
