Opel Mokka

It’s hard to talk about sales, promotions, discounts, or even price reductions. Just a simple, typically German price drop, Opel style.

The best-selling model in the lineup is, of course, the 48V hybrid version of the Mokka. A straightforward model equipped with a 100 kW (136 hp) turbo petrol engine and a 21 kW (28 hp) electric motor. To transfer this reasonable and sufficient power, it features the proven six-speed electrified dual-clutch transmission from the Stellantis group.

The advantage of this mild hybridization, besides easily escaping the ecological penalty thanks to reduced CO2 emissions, lies in the fuel savings that Opel estimates at 20%. The Mokka Hybrid can indeed drive entirely in electric mode for a few hundred meters, but don’t expect more than that. When orders opened, the model was listed from 30,700 euros, a price now reduced to 29,500 euros. It’s not amazing, but it’s something, and crossing the psychological barrier of 30,000 euros will certainly be beneficial.

A lack of willingness to do well

We were recently surprised by the closeness of the prices between the petrol and hybrid versions. Opel is reacting by lowering the introductory price of the non-electrified 1.2 Turbo version with an eight-speed automatic gearbox. This petrol version shows a fuel consumption of 6.1 liters per 100 kilometers according to the WLTP standard and CO2 emissions of 137 g/km. It drops from 28,100 to 26,500 euros, certainly a way to clear stocks before the next rise in the ecological penalty. Let’s remember that this model is already subject to a penalty of 740 euros. Suffice it to say that much better performance will be needed, and a significant clearance sale by the end of the year is to be expected!

In conclusion, let’s be as cautious and reserved as Opel and wait a bit. The promotional machine will eventually kick into gear for real!
