Alphabetical guide to infractions and fines if you drive in Paris

Here is the list of traffic violations in Paris, along with the fine amounts and points deducted from the driving license.

For Drivers :

• Running a red light : fixed fine of €135 and 4 points deducted.
• Running an orange light : fixed fine of €35 and 2 points deducted.
• Circulating or parking on a bicycle lane : fixed fine of €135 and 3 points deducted.
• A parking offense : fixed fine of €35.
• Highly obstructive parking (e.g., on a sidewalk, pedestrian crossing) : fixed fine of €135 and the possibility of vehicle impoundment.
• Dangerous parking : fixed fine of €135, 3 points deducted, and possibility of vehicle impoundment.
• Failure to pay for parking : Post-Stationing Fee (FPS) of €75 in zone 1 and €50 in zone 2, payable in 6-hour segments.
• Parking tariffs for heavy vehicles :
• Combustion or hybrid vehicles over 1.6 tons :
  • Zone 1 (1st to 11th arrondissement): €18 per hour.
  • Zone 2 (12th to 20th arrondissement): €12 per hour.
• Electric vehicles over 2 tons :
  • Zone 1 : €18 per hour.
  • Zone 2 : €12 per hour.
• These tariffs are applicable from Monday to Saturday, from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Parking remains free on Sundays and public holidays.
• Post-Stationing Fee (FPS) for heavy vehicles :
• In case of non-payment or exceeding the authorized parking time, a Post-Stationing Fee (FPS) is applied. Amounts are as follows:
• Zone 1 : €225
• Zone 2 : €150
• Using a handheld phone while driving : fixed fine of €135 and 3 points deducted.
• Using a device visible in the field of view (screen, excluding GPS) : fixed fine of €1,500, 3 points deducted, and possible confiscation of the device.
• Not wearing a seatbelt : fixed fine of €135 and 3 points deducted.
• Failing to stop at a stop sign : fixed fine of €135 and 4 points deducted.
• Driving under the influence (blood alcohol level between 0.5 g/l and 0.8 g/l) : fixed fine of €135, 6 points deducted, and possible license suspension.
• Speeding less than 20 km/h in urban areas : fixed fine of €135 and 1 point deducted.
• Speeding between 20 km/h and less than 30 km/h : : fixed fine of €135 and 2 points deducted.
• Speeding between 30 km/h and less than 40 km/h : : fixed fine of €135 and 3 points deducted.
• Speeding between 40 km/h and less than 50 km/h : : fixed fine of €135 and 4 points deducted.
• Speeding equal to or exceeding 50 km/h : : fines up to €1,500 and 6 points deducted.
• Additional possible penalties : Vehicle confiscation, mandatory road safety awareness course, etc.
• In case of a recurrence of speeding of 50 km/h or more within 3 years, the violation is considered a motoring offense, punishable by 3 months in prison, a €3,750 fine, and a 6-point penalty on the license.

For Cyclists :

• Running a red light : fixed fine of €135.
• Riding on the sidewalk : fixed fine of €135.
• Wearing headphones or using the phone while riding : fixed fine of €135.
• Lack of lighting at night or in poor visibility : fixed fine of €11.
• Ignoring priorities : fixed fine of €135.
• Transporting a passenger without an appropriate seat : fixed fine of €35.
• Changing direction without prior warning : fixed fine of €35.
• Riding more than two abreast on the roadway : fixed fine of €35.
• Driving under the influence : fixed fine of €135 and possible license suspension.

Note that infractions committed while riding a bicycle do not result in points being deducted from the driving license.

For Pedestrians :

• Crossing outside crosswalks or when the light is red : fixed fine of €4.
• Walking on the roadway without necessity : fixed fine of €4.

The fine amounts can vary depending on payment timing: reduced if paid promptly, increased in case of delay. Additionally, some infractions may lead to supplementary penalties, such as license suspension or vehicle impoundment.
