KTM is now under Indian ownership!

KTM has once again been saved at the last minute, just days away from bankruptcy. The orange adventure continues, but under Indian banner.

The parent company of KTM, Pierer Mobility AG, has confirmed that the necessary funding for the restructuring of the Austrian manufacturer has been secured. The announcement was made in a press release dated May 22, 2025.

“Today, we had the opportunity to continue the story of KTM. In collaboration with our long-term partner Bajaj, we have been able to develop a strategy that will allow us to raise an additional 600 million euros for our new start, in addition to the 200 million euros already made available,” said Gottfried Neumeister, CEO of KTM AG. “The existing sites – particularly our main factory in Mattighofen/Munderfing – will remain the foundation of our future success. This means we will continue to be an important employer for the entire region. Facing this new, second chance, we at KTM feel a deep gratitude and great humility towards all the people, within and outside our corporate group, who made this possible. I would also like to take this opportunity to thank Stefan Pierer on behalf of all those who have supported us along the way. He laid the foundations of one of the most recognized motorcycle brands in the world, which brings together a unique community.”

The Indian group Bajaj Auto, KTM’s main shareholder, has thus played a crucial role. An additional statement also specifies that this rescue of KTM is expected to lead to a short-term takeover of the Austrian manufacturer by the Indian group Bajaj. Indeed, Bajaj has obtained an option to buy the majority of Pierer’s shares in their joint company, which would allow it to become the main shareholder of KTM by May 2026, once the necessary approvals are obtained.

The future is therefore still not very clear, but KTM’s survival seems assured… for now.
