The average price of used electric cars finally drops below the symbolic threshold of 20,000 euros.

According to the latest Observatory from La Centrale, in the second quarter of 2025, the average price of a used electric car stands at €19,990, down €500 over three months and more than €3,000 over the past year, a decline of 13%. This historic drop makes this market much more accessible.

This correction is part of a general trend towards price correction in the used market. For all types of engines combined, the average price also drops below €20,000 for the first time since the post-Covid surge. For hybrid vehicles, another threshold has been crossed with an average price of €29,995. They too fall below a symbolic threshold.

So why these decreases? On the electric side, it’s not about rejection or loss of affection, it’s simply the expansion of supply that plays a key role. Long confined to high-end sedans, the market is now opening up to more compact and affordable models, particularly from new Chinese brands or from the first generations of vehicles that are now well established. On the hybrid side, massive expansion in the new market, where they now represent more than one in two sales, naturally fuels an influx of used vehicles.

Convinced customers, but not yet reassured?

80% of used vehicle buyers aim for a budget under €20,000, a threshold now compatible with purchasing an electric vehicle. This drop has a real impact on the perception of electric mobility because according to a study conducted by La Centrale and Avere-France, 48% of people looking for a used vehicle are now considering an electric model.

The last barriers remain to be lifted, starting with trust. 58% of skeptics still consider these vehicles too expensive, an argument that is becoming less and less valid. But beyond price, buyers expect guarantees: battery health, complete history, nearby charging station… and above all, a purchase from a trusted professional. On this point, manufacturers have sensed the tide turning and are multiplying financing offers for certified used electric vehicles.

As Anaïs Harmant, marketing director of La Centrale, summarizes: “The real challenge is no longer cost, but trust. It is what will boost the used electric market.”
