Toyota électrique europe

Toyota has chosen the Czech Republic for a new 100% electric chapter in its European history.

Toyota will produce its very first battery electric vehicle at its Kolin plant. This project marks a strategic step in the group’s electric transition and its ambition to achieve carbon neutrality across all its operations in Europe by 2040.

The Kolin site, already producing the Aygo X Hybrid and the Yaris Hybrid with an annual capacity of 220,000 vehicles, will expand from 152,000 m² to 173,000 m². This expansion will include new painting and welding workshops, as well as a facility dedicated to battery assembly. In total, the investment amounts to 680 million euros, of which 64 million is financed by the Czech government.

Toyota believes in a promising electric future

The project will create 245 skilled jobs and strengthen the local supply chain, as the majority of parts will be manufactured in the Czech Republic. The government estimates the economic impact at 250 million euros. Petr Fiala, Prime Minister, emphasizes that this investment “modernizes our automotive industry and maintains our competitiveness in a sector that represents 10% of GDP”. According to Lukáš Vlček, Minister of Industry and Trade, Toyota positions the Czech Republic as a key player in e-mobility in Europe.

Yoshihiro Nakata, President of Toyota Motor Europe, explains that this new BEV “reflects our commitment to innovation and sustainable mobility while strengthening our presence in the European market”. The Kolin plant, which has been operational for over 20 years, has produced more than 4.5 million vehicles and is becoming a strategic industrial player in the Central Bohemia region.
