What is a statue of Elon Musk doing behind a Tesla Cybertruck?

One gets used to everything with Elon Musk. But seeing his giant bust parading through the streets pulled by a Cybertruck is certainly a first.

This Sunday, August 18, the tranquility of the small town of Brownsville, Texas was disturbed by a rather strange convoy, a black Tesla Cybertruck towing a trailer on which rested a giant bust of Elon Musk. Since Brownsville is located near the headquarters of SpaceX, Tesla’s space subsidiary, it didn’t take long for the wildest theories to circulate on social media.

• Has Elon Musk become so megalomaniacal that he installed a giant statue of himself in front of his offices?
• Is he preparing for his passage to posterity?
• Is it a Trojan horse filled with spies sent by the Chinese?
• Is it a gift from Donald Trump to thank Musk for his personalized Cybertruck?
• Is it a Stargate to Mars?
• Is a Falcon rocket going to send this bust to infinity and beyond?

After some research, all these conspiracy theories fell apart. It is actually an initiative by ElonRWA, a group of Elon Musk fans very active on X (formerly Twitter), known for creating a digital avatar of the great man. Elon Musk even made the best possible compliment to his virtual double on July 1, 2021: “It’s like looking in a mirror.”

This bust will be the centerpiece of the grand ElonDay, a gathering in honor of the entrepreneur scheduled for August 25. The party promises to be magnificent with plenty of beer, country music, and roundtables on topics of space exploration, SpaceX, and of course Elon Musk. No need to reserve a ticket to Texas, the 250 available spots have already been filled…
